Stretching exercises...

Okay, so he's not really doing exercise, he's just being silly. It is amazing how babies can sleep in such strange positions. JaRele and I just have to laugh when we see him suddenly sprawled out, or leaning over, or any other weird way he sleeps. There is never a dull moment with Jacob.

Strategy

I think it's interesting that the first thing people ask me when they see my new baby is "Are you getting enough sleep?" In some form or another. While I tend to get mildly annoyed by this question, I have been working with Jacob on this issue. For a few nights, he wouldn't sleep anywhere except with me. I don't mind it so much, but I don't sleep as well when he's with me. I'm always worried that either Dustin or I will roll over on top of the poor kid. So, I decided to try a new approach. First off, we put him in the crib instead of the bassinet. I think that has been good because he likes to sleep spread eagle and he wakes himself up when he hits the side of the bassinet. Second, I decided to lay him down in the crib every time he falls asleep so he learns to associate the crib with sleeping. (There's that psychology training for ya.) Even if it means I have to get up after 10 minutes and rocking him until he falls asleep again. So far, it's been 2 nights and it's worked! He's been much better about not fussing after I lay him down. I know that it will be different every night, but right now I think my strategy is working. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
